MY BRAIN HURTS!!
See the image of the old broken down barn? That is my brain right now. I feel like somebody set off a bomb in my head and now half of my boards are missing. The SilverFox and I have been working on this stupid wonderful web/blog/ecommerce site for about 3 weeks now. He is super smart when it comes to computer programing, knows all about HTML, CSS and, well…… more computer stuff. I [pause for dramatic affect] am an interior designer, NOT a member of the geek crew. This fact has been made abundantly clear to me over the last week and half. Even with his [super genius] assistance, it is still taking us MUCH longer than either of us were lead to believe it would. I feel like we paid for a ride to funville and rather than getting in the car, it ran us over and left us by the side of the road to lick our wounds. I know, I know it sounds rather melodramatic but mentally that is exactly how I feel. We have watched over 100 YouTube videos to try and teach ourselves out of this mess. I think I cannot feel my brain anymore. It is mush.
I have cried, screamed, and raged like a toddler in the middle of the WalMart.
I have almost thrown my computer out of the window [more than once].
I may have cursed like a sailor said a few not so nice words about website designers, theme builders, CSS, PHP and a bunch of other new acronyms I have learned.
I had NO idea how hard it would be to create a website. So much of the theme and website designer’s advertising says “get your website set up and running in as little as 2 hours”.
They must have thought they were talking to Bill Gates or something.
Surely there is a better way to do this. I wish there was some “setting up a website for dummies or really, really dummies” or something like that. Maybe when all of this is over we will make a video tutorial of our own for people out there like us. We can’t be the only ones this has been so hard for. I hope not. Seriously!
Maybe you, my dear reader, have your own sparkly, beautifully styled website that you effortlessly got up and running in the couple of hours that “they” advertise. If you do have one of those, please let me know the secret path to glory because so far we have not found it. What we have found is a few gems in the form of widgets and plugins amongst a big pile of…not so helpful “suggestions” about how easy all of this is.
Yikes, I think this “getting up and running” is going to be rough. This is my first post and I sound very pathetic contemptible [loving the thesaurus button though].
So if you are still reading my dear friends, follow along as we venture down this path together. Maybe with your help we can make it out of the bushes and into the light.
